　　三个蜗居在伦敦公寓的年轻人各自怀有伟大的梦想：AK想带领Gogol Bordello乐队成为摇滚巨星；Holly梦想进入皇家芭蕾舞团，朱丽叶致力于慈善事业，想去非洲借助那里的贫困儿童。但现实与梦想之间的距离是如此残酷：Holly为了生计做了钢管舞女，朱丽叶只是一个药店售货员，忍受着老板的性骚扰，时不时从店里顺点药；AK赚钱的途径不是音乐，而是异装扮演女王为客人提供SM服务，AK心仪于美丽的Holly，但也会邀请她和朱丽叶一起与他的客人玩角色扮演的性游戏。他同时还是个业余哲学家，经常直接跳出来对观众宣讲自己的哲学观点：“下流与智慧是一枚硬币的两面，没有下流，就没有智慧；没有黑暗，就没有光明。”这便是片名的由来。
